The Compleat Mythbusters

Now, it's probably not a huge secret that I'm a huge Mythbusters fan. I especially love it when Adam drops by Mefi to comment or related posts. With that in mind, I give you every Mythbuster myth in nifty graph form on one page. (Here's a separate, lofi compendium of Mythbusters myths.) Relieve your favorite explosions.

Do You Like Pho-Tography?

A wink's as good as a nudge to a blind bat, eh?

OK, it's a night of housekeeping here. I've finally updated my Flickr page with lots of new photographs, including the wedding last weekend, my Chicago trip, new St. Mary's pics, and more.

My photographic output is not nearly as prolific (or as good) as sweetfrenchtoast's photos or El Gray's photos, or GrabbingSand's photos, but oh, well, onward and upward.

The Office vs. The Office(s)

Coinciding with the premiere of what may well be the best American comedy sitcom tonight, Slate's Liesl Schillinger compares four versions of The Office--two of which are complete re-imaginings of the original British version for France and Germany.

I think the writer is on to something when she talks about how each of the four versions reflect something of how each culture relates to its work life. For example, I enjoyed the original BBC version, but the U.S. version premiering tonight on NBC strikes much more closely to home.

Real Life Intro from the Simpsons

This has to be seen to be believed: a real-life re-enactment of the intro from the Simpsons. As El Gray would say, double plus awesome.

Also, I'll have my review of the Wedding Present show up as soon as work relents a bit. For now, let's just say it was great.

The Boondocks

As some of you may know, I'm a big fan of Aaron MacGruder's comic, The Boondocks. It's part of my morning ritual. Caffeine, check. Boondocks, check. Doonesbury, check. Work? Oh yeah, I'd better get on that.

So I've been anticipating the TV show on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim for a while (warning: site takes a long time to load, but is has a neat comic panel interface). It's also been getting a lot of publicity on the sides of buses here in Atlanta, as well as a few billboards.

It finally premiered last night. First impressions? I liked it generally, but the voices will probably take some time to grow on me. They don't quite match what I hear in my head when I read the daily strip--except for Granddad, who was right on. MacGruder is pretty heavily involved with the show, so I'll trust his original vision will be presented, and I'll just have to adjust.

And yes, that was Ed Asner who provided the old, rich white guy's voice. He even looked like him a bit.

Understanding Johnny

OK, I'll admit it. I never understood the attraction to Johnny Carson (and I know I'm chiming in late here). But I've figured out why: my parents (farm-born and reared) were long in bed by the time that the Tonight Show came on, and by extension, so was I until my early teens--and then, by that time, I was generally up to no good anyway. But here I sit at 11:30ish on a weeknight watching the only true heir to Johnny, another Jon--Jon Stewart on the Daily Show. So, I finally get what Johnny was to fully two or three generations of Americans... the last voice heard before sleep. With commentary on the day and some celebrity auto-masturbation. Looks kind of familiar doesn't it? Only now, there are many options; then, there was one.

Rest in peace Johnny. I get it now.
