Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein

David Barsalou has scoured the comic word to locate the source images for many of Roy Lichtenstein's paintings, and compares the original images side by side with Lichtenstein's paitings. presented them both side-by-side. Here's a sampling (and perhaps my favorite painting):

For the record, I think this exercise shows how accomplished Lichtenstein was since without fail, his paintings are huge improvements over the original images. I was lucky enough to see the above at the High Museum, and it is absolutely incredible.

The Scream

It's been a long time since I wrote about this, but The Scream has been recovered, along with another painting Madonna. The last time I talked about this, many thought that the iconic painting had been destroyed and would never be recovered. I am quite thankful that they were wrong.

The damage to the paintings was much less than police had feared.

Long Lost Art

Apparently, 32 heretofore unknown paintings by Jackson Pollock have recently been discovered. I don't really have much more to say about it, but it is kind of neat--especially considering the most recent art news I've heard dealt with the rumored desctruction of Munch's The Scream (which is decidedly not neat).
